Dr Sherif Awad is a distinguished Consultant in General, Laparoscopic (Keyhole), Bariatric (Weight Loss), and Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgery.

Dr Sherif (PhD, FRCS) is a distinguished & highly experienced Consultant Laparoscopic (keyhole) General, Upper Gastrointestinal & Weight Loss Surgeon. He qualified in the United Kingdom having studied at the University of St.Andrews (BSc MedSci) and University of Manchester (MBChB Hons). He undertook all his surgical training in the UK (Manchester, the East-Midlands and London). He has over a decade of experience as Consultant Surgeon in the UK before moving to Dubai. Now based at Emirates Speciality Hospital (Healthcare City), Dr Sherif looks forward to offering his expertise and specialist care to patients in the UAE.
Dr Sherif is a Fellowship trained surgeon having completed two fellowships in Advanced Laparoscopic (Keyhole) and Bariatric (weight loss) Surgery. Trustee of the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS); Council Member (Professional Educational Lead) of the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS); Director of the Royal College of Surgeons of England post-CCT Bariatric Fellowship at the East-Midlands Bariatric & Metabolic Institute (EMBMI); Service Lead of EMBMI (regional Centre that provides bariatric services to patients from the East-Midlands); Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham. Dr Sherif is research active and completed his PhD into the metabolic and cellular effects of carbohydrate-based preconditioning drinks that are used in Enhanced Recovery (ERAS) Protocols. He has co-authored over 50 publications including international guidelines on Enhanced Recovery After Bariatric Surgery. His research expertise includes other topics such as perioperative nutrition, enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS), insulin resistance and the physiological and metabolic effects of bariatric and metabolic surgery.
Dr Sherif’s research has been awarded numerous national and international prizes including the prestigious 2010 Moynihan Medal of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI). He is an expert journal reviewer many journals including the British Journal of Surgery, British Medical Journal, and International Journal of Obesity.
